Since this year we were sans family members we decided to do something we'd always wanted to do. We went to a showing of It's a Wonderful Life. After 5:15 Mass we had dinner and then waited with some hot chocolate for the theater to open. It is a grand old theater that shows classic movies through out the year--Dr. Geek & I had our first date there. It was so much fun! The evening started with Christmas carols on the Wurlitzer organ and complimentary drinks and popcorn. In the past we've attended Midnight Mass at the church we were married in and don't make it home until well after 1:30am so in comparison this was an early evening for us!

I love stockings! As a child I always got batteries in my stocking. I tell ya' that Santa was always on the ball. Now I get adhesive refills and other scrappin' goodness in my stocking! OUr stockings are unique. I made mine about 6 years ago from a Martha Stewart pattern that I tweeked a bit. She had a feature on making Nutcracker themed stockings--a drum, soldiers boot, and a ballet slipper. SInce I spent he better part of 20 years as an Irish Dancer (pre Lord of the Dance!) I made mine look like a soft shoe. Dr. Geek's family didn't use stockings they would hang their dad's socks on the staircase. I had a stocking made for him by an online store that customizes the stocking based on the interests of the person. So there is a computer and cooking and wine paraphernalia as well as items from his undergrad and graduate institutions.
This year I made an advent calendar based on examples I'd seen online using baby socks. I realize that hanging it on the fireplace makes us look like the old woman who lived in a shoe!

A slight divergence from today's assigned topic. I went to see the Nutcracker and added the tickets and pamphlet to the page. I folded the brochure to create the pocket and clipped it to the ribbon. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with these elements but am very happy with the results. I used Making Memories mini safety pins to attach the page number.

I once again printed out my "letter to Santa", my family sends out emails to the group for our Secret Santa gift exchange. I made the envelope using a pattern that I got ages and ages ago, pre scrapbooking!

Dr. Geek's family claims a recipe for fruit cake that is actually edible! I, myself have not tried it. I'm not a big fan of fruit cake, but my parents have had it and love it. They especially like to toast it and have it for a breakfast snack.
