After viewing one version of this video...[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwVVpwBKUp0] ...I started to reflect on many of the bits of advice given through out the song. The sunscreen advice hits home with me. Being a child of the 70's there was no SPF 50, 45, 30 or even 15. It was all Ban de Soeil. As the full blooded Irish Redhead, I burned, I burned bad! There is no such thing as a tan for me. No gradually easing my tolerance as the summer progresses. So as a child I had to swim with a T-Shirt on and was immediately thrown into the shade with a huge hat and towels to cover every inch of my skin for good measure. So I had to do some searching but I did find this picture to really illustrate the point.
Another point of the song that I hope a dear friend will also notice is this:
"Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young."
I think this is truly one of the hardest things to understand and accept in life. Letting go of a relationship, no matter how dysfunctional, is hard to do. In essence you are letting go of a part of who you are and that is never easy. But I'm learning to let go of the unhealthy and put more energy into holding onto the "precious few."
And so ends my ramblings for the day.
